While we were in Wales we also visited Colby Woodland Garden where we spent a very pleasant few hours roaming around the woods and strolling around the walled garden.

Looking along the valley away from the Lodge.

Looking towards the Lodge from the edge of the wood.

One of the easier pathways through the woods, the rhodos and azalias were giving their best but there were very few bluebells to be seen at this time.

The water level looked fairly low and the water was moving pretty fast. I do not think I would like to be near when this 'stream' was in full spate.

There is also a Walled Garden at Colby. There was plenty in flower to see inside the walled garden including hellebores, hebes, a beautiful magnolia as you entered the garden, several viburnums and lovely deep red camelia named 'Anticipation'.

A view looking down from the gazebo towards the lodge. The New Zealand Flax 'Phormium tenax purpurea' is on the left and there is a magnolia 'Magnolia soulangiana' on the right.

Time for break, the beech hedge makes a good wind break.

Another view acroos the garden towards the entrance with a Chaenomeles japonica in the foreground, primulas and muscari to the left and pulmonaria used as under planting around the trees.
